چکیده

Several characteristic phenomena of excitability were found in the cardiac muscle during the relative refractory period when the excitability was studied by electrical stimulations with surface electrodes.According to BROOKS and his associates1,2,15)and subsequently by HOFFMAN et al.7,8),CRANEFIELD et al.3),and VAN Dum et al.20)the characteristic aspects of the excitability of cardiac muscles during the relative refractory period may be stated as follows:(1) formation of a distinct'dip'in the strength-interval curve,(2)presence of a definite supernormality in anodal excitability, and preferencial occurrence of excitation at the anode,and(3)existence of'no-response phe nomenon'and `vulnerable period to fibrillation, .It was also reported that the cardiac muscle

Does the Longer Application of Anodal-Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation Increase Corticomotor Excitability Further? A Pilot Study

Introduction: Anodal transcranial direct current stimulation (a-tDCS) of the primary motor cortex (M1) has been shown to be effective in increasing corticomotor excitability. Methods: We investigated whether longer applications of a-tDCS coincide with greater increases in corticomotor excitability compared to shorter application of a-tDCS. Ten right-handed healthy participants received one se...

MEDIAN NERVE STIMULATION PO TENTIATES THE MU SCLE RESPONSES TO TRANS C RANIAL MAGNETIC STIMULATION

Motor responses evoked by transcranial magnetic stimulation OMS) or transcranial electrical stimulation (TCS) can be facilitated by a prior conditioning stimulus to an afferent nerve. Two facilitation periods are described short (SI), when the nerve stimulus is given near 0 to 10 ms after cranial stimulation, and long (LI), when nerve stimulation is given 25-60 ms before the cranial stimula...

Examination of stimulation mechanism and strength-interval curve in cardiac tissue.

Understanding the basic mechanisms of excitability through the cardiac cycle is critical to both the development of new implantable cardiac stimulators and improvement of the pacing protocol. Although numerous works have examined excitability in different phases of the cardiac cycle, no systematic experimental research has been conducted to elucidate the correlation among the virtual electrode ...

Excitation-induced exchange of Na+, K+, and Cl− in rat EDL muscle in vitro and in vivo: Physiology and pathophysiology

In skeletal muscle, excitation leads to increased [Na(+)](i), loss of K(+), increased [K(+)](o), depolarization, and Cl(-) influx. This study quantifies these changes in rat extensor digitorum longus (EDL) muscles in vitro and in vivo using flame photometric determination of Na(+) and K(+) and (36)Cl as a tracer for Cl(-). In vitro, 5-Hz stimulation for 300 s increased intracellular Na(+) conte...

Excitation-contraction coupling of cultured human skeletal muscle cells and the relation between basal cytosolic Ca2+ and excitability.

Cultured human skeletal muscle cells are frequently used as a model to study muscle pathology, in which Ca2+ homeostasis might be affected. However, their excitation-contraction (E-C) coupling has been poorly investigated. In order to elucidate E-C coupling of cultured muscle cells, we activated the acetylcholine receptors, voltage-dependent Na+ channels, dihydropyridine receptors or ryanodine ...
